Hammond in Hong Kong

Posted on: December 15, 2011

Crossroads Hong KongYou may have noticed John’s absence from the office for the first 2 weeks of November (at least John hopes you did!!), when he joined a ‘Blokes on a Mission’ trip from St Christopher’s in Avonhead to volunteer for 2 weeks with Crossroads, an aid organization based in Hong Kong. With no second-hand market in Hong Kong to speak of, Crossroads fills a gap by collecting goods (furniture, computers, electrical goods, clothing, books etc) and then distributing them not only in Hong Kong itself, but to the needy throughout the world. The ‘blokes’ busied themselves with a number of tasks including IT work, electrical cabling and database repair. John was also involved working with asylum seekers, refugees and local Hong Kong folk seeking assistance with goods. He has some fascinating insights from the trip, so next time you see him, ask him about it.
